Anesthesia provider participation is no longer optional for ASC success, says Michael Bernard, MD, an anesthesiologist and director of anesthesia for Bone and Joint Surgery Center of Novi in Novi, Michigan. “If the anesthesia group is not engaged—or if the center chooses not to engage them—they are putting themselves behind the eight ball,” says Bernard, who is also the chief medical officer for Ambulatory Anesthesia Solutions, the ASC’s anesthesia group. “When everyone in the ASC is involved in the decision-making process, it creates a better work environment that leads to better outcomes and more cases coming through the door.”
