In the late 1990s, the US Department of Health & Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) began placing a heavy emphasis on corporate compliance plans, says Lani Dornfeld, a member at Brach Eichler who works out of the firm’s Roseland, New Jersey, and West Palm Beach, Florida, offices. Part of this focus included the issuing of compliance guidance for hospitals, physician practices and other types of healthcare facilities.
