Avoid Citations on Controlled Substances

Use best practices for handling, storing and monitoring

ASCs that improperly handle, store or monitor their controlled substances can face a slew of citations from surveyors, says Lea Schilit, assistant vice president of clinical pharmacy services for the Eastern Region of the HCA Healthcare Ambulatory Surgery Division. These include citations for failure to properly store controlled substances, required documentation on controlled substance records and proper wastage of controlled substances per US Drug Enforcement Administration requirements.
