AAAHC Names ASCA Board Member as its Board Chair

David Shapiro, MD

The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) of Skokie, Illinois, named David Shapiro, MD, CASC, as its board chair, according to a release. Shapiro, former president and current member of the ASCA Board of Directors and an anesthesiologist at Red Hills Surgical Center in Tallahassee, Florida, serves on the boards of the Florida Society of Ambulatory Surgical Centers and the Facility Guidelines Institute. He also is a board member of the ASC Quality Collaboration, which develops, measures and publicly reports national ASC quality data. Additionally, Shapiro applies his expertise as a member of the Florida State Consumer Health Information and Policy Advisory Council, an appointed position within the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration. He has been a AAAHC surveyor for 19 years.

The other new board officers include Edwin Slade, immediate past board chair, and Jan Davidson, RN, CASC, board chair-elect. Lawrence Kim, MD, will serve the second year of his two-year term as AAAHC secretary/treasurer. The four elected directors, whose terms will expire in 2025, include W. Patrick Davey, MD, elected for a second three-year term on the board; David N. Gans, elected for a second three-year term on the board; Jan Kleinhesselink, RN; and Temple O. Robinson, MD.

“With such a skilled and diverse leadership team, I am confident we will continue to serve AAAHC and its accredited organizations in their shared goal of improving patient safety and quality of care through accreditation,” Shapiro said in the relase. “During our tenure, we on the board will dedicate our efforts to demonstrating the value of accreditation and its direct impact on patient outcomes and continuous improvement throughout the 1,095 days of the accreditation term.”
