NJAASC Sponsors One World Surgery Medical Mission

The New Jersey Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers (NJAASC) has sponsored a scholarship that will support one of One World Surgery's weeklong surgical missions to Honduras in October, according to a press release. The scholarship will fund the program fee for an operating room (OR) nurse from Utah who has volunteered for the mission. A portion of the program fee covers the volunteer’s on-site costs, but the majority is applied toward the costs of surgery that One World Surgery offers for free to its patients.

The mission is scheduled for October 13-20, 2018. Over the course of that week, the mission team expects to perform 60 surgeries on patients who otherwise would not have access to high-quality surgical care in Honduras.

During One World Surgery’s weeklong medical mission trips, physicians, other clinical participants, nonclinical participants and family members come together to perform life-changing surgeries. One World Surgery hosts one to two medical mission teams each month with up to 60 volunteers per team. All medical missions take place at the Holy Family Surgery Center (HFSC) in Honduras. HFSC offers the following specialties: general surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, urology, ophthalmology, ENT, surgical oncology and spine. The surgery center is located on the 2,000-acre ranch of the children’s home Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos.

"Testimony to this is the fact that NJAASC plans to extend its commitment to One World Surgery through donations by our member centers of equipment and supplies over the course of the next year, as well.”
