We are running a series of Q&As with ASCA’s Board of Directors to help our members get to know them better. Meet Tyler Marks, MD, Board member and physician at Specialty Orthopedic Group in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Q: How did you get into the ASC space?
Tyler Marks (TM): First, by operating at one, and then, in 2017, I began to make plans to build our own ASC.

One thing most people at work do not know about you: I actually do have a sweet tooth.
Q: What are your aspirations for ASCA?
TM: To continue to grow the sense of community for ASCs, and use that to foster continued growth in the space.
Q: Who was a great mentor for you?
TM: Bob Lodes.
Q: What are you most proud of in your ASC work?
TM: It is not my work but my collective group’s work that I am immensely proud of. We have faced and overcome many different challenges over the years. We started with our first center, built it from the ground up and made it successful. And now we are celebrating the opening of our second ASC.
Q: If you could change one thing about the ASC community, what would it be?
TM: I would like to find an easier way for ASCs to learn from one another in terms of mistakes and successes.
Q: What excites you most about the future of ASCs?
TM: ASCs are the future of medicine—I am excited about new procedures being added each year and seeing what AI has in store for the ASC space.
Q: What legacy do you hope to leave in the ASC space?
TM: I hope to leave not my legacy but my group’s legacy, one of adaptability, excellence and efficiency.
