Keeping up with credentialing and privileging is far preferable to the alternative, says Kris Kilgore, RN, executive director of Surgical Care Center of Michigan in Grand Rapids, Michigan. “Once you start falling behind, it becomes difficult to catch up—and you are potentially playing with fire. CMS [the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services] and other surveyors can come through your door at any time. You could also have a patient issue or complaint and then find you do not have all the necessary documentation for the provider. That would be scary.”
