ASCA Names New Chief Advocacy Officer

Kara Newbury

ASCA has promoted Kara Newbury to chief advocacy officer. Newbury joined ASCA as the assistant director of Government Affairs for state policy in 2011. In the last 13 years, she has expanded her role multiple times and, currently, leads ASCA’s policy-driven efforts with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Her efforts have resulted in stabilization of ASC Medicare reimbursement rates and the inclusion of dozens of codes on the ASC Covered Procedures List. With her extensive knowledge of the industry and her dedication to the organization, Newbury has been a driving force behind ASCA’s achievements for the ASC community at large.

“I feel incredibly fortunate to represent such a critical sector of healthcare and am excited to continue to advocate for the sustainability of surgery centers through this expanded role,” Newbury said.

Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Newbury graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of science in psychology and a bachelor of arts in political science as well as a JD.

“Kara is a spirited presence at ASCA,” said Bill Prentice, chief executive officer of ASCA. “As the chief advocacy officer, she will continue to lead ASC advocacy efforts, ensuring that the organization’s voice is heard on critical issues affecting the industry.
