Celebrate National ASC Month

Join ASCs across the country this August to celebrate 50 years of ASCs during National ASC Month. Each August, facilities around the country host open houses and facility tours for elected officials, the media and members of their community to promote awareness of ASCs and celebrate National ASC Month.

While the COVID-19 pandemic presents novel challenges and changes to the normal form of National ASC Month, it also presents new opportunities. Policymakers and the public are uniquely focused on the healthcare sphere, and it has never been more crucial that elected officials understand the ASC model and the role ASCs can play in supporting healthcare delivery in this and future crises.

Though in more typical years, hosting an in-person facility tour was a great way to create a personal connection with your elected officials that could directly affect ASC-related legislation and regulations, during this time, ASCA staff look forward to working with you to help raise the profile of your ASC and educate the public in new ways. You and your staff have a great story to tell about the high-quality care ASCs offer, and your input is critical to securing support for ASCs during key policymaking deliberations.

This year, National ASC Month will coincide with the August congressional recess as well as the Democratic National Convention August 17–20 and the Republican National Convention August 24–27. For more information, visit ASCA's National ASC Month page or write Adam Parker.

Register for ASCA’s August Webinars

ASCA will host two webinars in August.

Sandra Jones, president and chief executive officer of Ambulatory Strategies in Dade City, Florida, will lead “Risk Management: Defining an Adverse Event and Performing a Root Cause Analysis” on August 4. Attendees will learn how to define adverse events, explore tools they can use to respond to an incident and find out how to develop an action plan and assess its effectiveness in decreasing the likelihood that a patient injury will reoccur.

On August 18, Michele McKinley, senior clinical education specialist of Steris Corporation, headquartered in Mentor, Ohio, will present “Best Practices in Surgical Instrument Reprocessing.” McKinley will review the guidelines for reprocessing medical devices, the role of these guidelines in protecting patient safety and the practices ASCs can put in place to ensure compliance.

Both webinars will take place at 1:00 pm ET, and both are included in the 2020 Webinar All-Access Pass. This pass provides access to the live events and recordings of all 19 webinars this year at one low price.
